Being productive at home can be super challenging, especially with everything else that comes with this Raahui. Here are some tips to give you some guidance around how to smash it in your "home office"
1. Set up your work space
Dedicate a place in your home as your work space. You'll spend a
lot of time here for the next (few) weeks. So make sure it's comfortable and
fit for purpose. Handy tips here: https://skynz.workplace.com/groups/2775339722551794/permalink/2786305094788590/
2. Get connected
Ensure you have access to everything you need to do your work. Here's where you can find everything you need to get connected to Sky. If you're not having any luck, please call the Service Desk on (09) 525 8325
3. Get ready for the day
Follow your normal workday routine without the commute. Get up, get dressed, have some kai and do some exercise if you’re that way inclined. Do something for you that’s going to set you up well for the rest of the day: spend time with people in your bubble, call someone you care about or spend some time outside. Don't feel like you have to dress up. Comfort is key. But if you want to go all out, then go for gold!
4. Manage the expectations of your bubble mates
If you have kids, flatties or high maintenance pets do your best to explain to them about your availability during the day. The reality of working from home means that sometimes you need to juggle both, and that’s ok. We're all doing our best.
5. Check in with the team daily
It’s a good idea to check in with your team every day. That way you can share how you’re feeling, what you’re working on and what you need help with. During this time when we’re doing a lot of work on the fly, the workload can be uneven between team members. If you are light on work, sing out! You may be able to take something off someone else’s shoulders.
6. Prioritise your tasks
Decide on what you’re going to achieve for the day and then go for it. Break larger tasks down into smaller chunks so that you can feel that sense of accomplishment. This isn’t just about productivity for Sky (although this is a super important time for us), it’s about your mental wellbeing. Being able to contribute enhances your self esteem.
7. Work hard/Play hard
If you need to work on something urgent and important, then remove distractions by turning off notifications. Otherwise, spend your efforts working on non-urgent and important tasks. Make sure to take breaks to do something for you, and/or spend time with your bubblemates. Avoid working through your breaks. Have lunch away from your “desk”.
8. Hydrate
Help with mental clarity by making sure you have some water throughout the day
9. Finish for the day
Switch off from work at the end of your working day. If you’ve taken time to prioritise activities with the whanau or you’ve been interrupted, you can catch up in the evening. Switching off at the end of the day is an important part of work/life integration. You’re not expected to be “on” the whole time.
